Farrier Report: Glushu Application for Hoof Deformation Treatment

Horses are magnificent animals, but like all living beings, they can face health challenges. Hoof deformations can drastically affect a horse's well-being and performance. Fortunately, there are innovative solutions in the equine world that can help address these issues. Farrier Ronald Aalders recently shared a compelling case study demonstrating Glushu's effectiveness in treating a horse with hoof deformation.

In the case shared by Aalders, the lateral wall of the horse's hoof was compromised. To provide support, he applied Glushu, which allowed him to adjust the hoof shoe's position laterally. This adjustment was essential in offering much-needed lateral support.

As a result, the horse was not only more comfortable but also able to engage in work with greater ease. Through these methods, significant improvements in hoof structure and function can be achieved.

From Ronald Aalders:

When veterinarians manage to reduce the problem a horse has that caused deformation of the foot, that deformed hoof still needs to be taken care of. That's our job, it's a vet-farrier treatment team, after all. Here the lateral wall was pushed in by overloading it.

The AP X-ray shows the amount of it. Widening a lateral wall can be done in several ways, but only a glue on application like this one also reduces the chances of the shoe being pulled because the cuffs keep it flush with the wall.

To move the shoe more laterally I first widened that lateral wall with Glue-U's Shufix. After grinding I gained almost 10 mm normalizing the shape of the foot.

When after that the Glushu is applied obviously the shoe moves laterally as well providing a much better position of the shoe and the desperately needed lateral support. #sigronpodiatry.”

Managing equine hoof issues can feel overwhelming. Glushu offer practical support during the rehabilitation process. Farriers like Ronald Aalders, with their expertise and commitment, play a key role in helping horses overcome these challenges. With effective treatments, horses can restore their well-being and return to their regular activities.
