From Zolas:

“This afternoon we took a drive to my apprentice stable, and I showed and taught her how to trim, prep and glue shoes on her retired Döle horse.

Dølehest is a Norwegian small drafthorse, around 57 to 63 inches, (145 to 160 cm) high, weigh 1,190 to 1,390 pounds (540 to 630 kg), and are usually bay or brown, or black, with gray, palomino, chestnut, and dun occurring less frequently (Wikipedia..).

This horse has been ridden barefoot for many years, but is now 25 years old and suffering with arthritis. They are not comfortable going barefoot any longer. He can’t hold his legs up very long, so nailing on shoes is not an option.

I suggested that we should see if he would be more comfortable with a pair of glued shoes on, so he doesn’t need to trip around and being tense about sore feet and aching knees.

I’ve cut the front out from the GluShu, to be able to back the toe more. We also put the shoe in the grinder in the toe, more breakover, to really make his movements soft as possible.

He is a really beautiful horse. He looked so happy afterwards, when we took him out walking, like; -aha! I can walk freely now!

Emma , my apprentice is super excited about Glushu; “-wow it was amazingly fun to glue shoes! Let’s do this more often!” She is going to glue shoes on the hinds on another day.”
